November 2008

Newsletter

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and we have been busy.  Trail work is coming along slowly.  The new bridge at Badger Brook is done.  The new bridge at Waring property and Parents pit is next.  We hope to have it done by end of November.  We will need some help with this when we do it.  We are hoping to have the bridge structure itself pre-welded on a trailer, then equipment can set it in place and the crew can go right to town decking.  Signing and trimming also needs to be finished.  The re-route behind Best Way to Jamestown Rd is nearly completed.  Most of the cutting is done, now for the minimal equipment work.  We are quite pleased with the outcome and look forward to using this trail soon.

The fundraiser did not go as well as we had hoped.  We were a couple hundred short to “break-even” on the calendars, live and learn.  Maybe some of it is due to the state of the current economy.  We still have several fleece scarves left, Patriots and Celtics available.  Check the website.  Starting the weekend on Nov. 15th you can purchase them online via Paypal or as usual call Nelly at 365-9666.

The county map looks great and should be ready from the printers by Christmas.  We will keep you posted.

Memberships are coming in very slowly.  Please make sure you join today to support the club with the projects that need to be done.  I wanted to give you an example of one project.  The Parents pit bridge replacement.  Bridge materials: Steel beams and supports, concrete abutments, pressure treated lumber, equipment needed to move old bridge and set new bridge.  This project will cost the club $4000.00 or more.  The club (every club in the state) owes $10.00 from every membership to NHSA, leaving $15.00 for the club.  Quick math shows we need 260+ members to pay for this bridge outright; the BBB only has that many members total in one season.  We are eligible to get some of the project money back through the Grant-in Aid program, but we must pay for and complete the project first.  I hope this helps the snowmobiling community understand the importance of joining a club.
